1.  R&D / CORPORATE TAX SPECIALIST – CHELTENHAM

The role

The corporate tax team at Crowthers Accountants are looking to recruit a new senior member, to report directly to the Tax Director, Sara Crowther.  The team specialises in the preparation of claims for research and development (R&D) tax relief and prepares claims worth in excess of £4 million each year for a diverse range of clients across many different sectors and industries. This means the role is very varied and interesting.

The role will require the individual to assist in the preparation of the R&D tax relief claims including:

  • Onsite visits and telephone calls with clients to gather information about R&D activities;
  • Gathering, reviewing and analysing clients R&D cost information;
  • Preparing detailed reports for HM Revenue and Customs in relation to the claim for R&D tax relief.

In addition, the individual will be expected to:

  • Assist in business development activities and attracting new R&D clients to the firm;
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients;
  • Provide an exceptional level of client service as this is a key aspect of the Crowthers R&D offering;
  • Carry out the work within agreed timescales and budgets;
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in R&D tax legislation and HMRC guidance and identify clients impacted by any changes;
  • Produce technical briefings and marketing material as required;
  • Travel throughout the UK to meet clients.

In addition to their role in the R&D projects, the individual will also be involved in some corporation tax compliance work, patent box claims and capital allowance claims. The tax team at Crowthers also carry out a significant level of advisory and restructuring projects. The individual will be required to:

  • Support the Tax Director on advisory projects;
  • Research technical matters in a methodical manner; and
  • Produce reports to explain tax matters clearly and succinctly to clients.

The individual

We are looking for the right person to fit in with our young expanding team in Cheltenham and due to the volume of new business experience in R&D tax relief claims is essential.

The individual should have the following qualifications:

  • ACA/ACCA qualified.
  • CTA is not essential but is desirable (we would consider offering CTA training for the right candidate).
  • A degree in a science or a technology discipline is also desirable to comprehend IT related research.

We are looking for an individual with the following skills:

  • Excellent written skills and experience of report writing.
  • Good oral communicator.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Dedicated, enthusiastic, flexible and keen to learn.
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally work long hours to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Driving licence is essential.

The role will be based in our new office in the centre of Cheltenham, although there will be occasional work in our other offices in Pershore and Ledbury.

2. Accounts Manager – Cheltenham

  • Prepare and review sole trader, partnership and limited company accounts.
  • Prepare and review corporation tax returns, self-assessment tax returns and VAT returns.
  • Job planning, managing year-end letters and ensuring all deadlines are monitored.
  • Attending management meetings.
  • Monitor chargeable time and recoveries on jobs and carry out the work within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Train and appraise juniors.
  • Assist in business development activities and attracting new clients to the firm.
  • Develop initiatives to drive the firm forward.
  • Assist the corporate tax team with the preparation of the R&D tax relief claims, patent box claims and capital allowance claims.
  • Assist the tax team with advisory and restructuring projects.

The individual

We are looking for the right person to fit in with our young expanding team in Cheltenham.

The individual should have the following qualifications:

  • ACA/ACCA qualified.
  • At least 2 years post qualification experience.
  • Knowledge of Kashflow, Sage, Xero and Quick Books.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience of report writing.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Dedicated, enthusiastic, flexible and keen to learn.
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally work long hours to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Driving licence is essential.
  • Enthusiastic about the opportunity to grow a team

3. LEGAL SECRETARY – CHELTENHAM

The role

The role will require the individual to perform administrative duties and clerical duties to assist the company to run smoothly, predominantly working for the Tax Director.  As such, some aspects of the role will have a tax technical element for which full training will be provided.

The role will include:

  • Answering telephones.
  • Reception duties including dealing with clients, managing diaries and appointments, arranging conference calls and meetings and making drinks.
  • Typing duties including composing correspondence and preparing reports.
  • Assisting with internal and external marketing events and creating presentations to potential clients.
  • Completing company secretarial paperwork (training will be provided).
  • Completing paperwork relating to probate activities (training will be provided).
  • Conducting technical research to assist the Tax Director with project work (training will be provided).
  • Carrying out project work to take the business forward.
  • Purchasing and managing supplies for the office.
  • Making travel arrangements for the Director.

The individual

We are looking for the right person to fit in with our young expanding team in Cheltenham.  Experience of working in a similar role within a professional firm is preferable but not essential.

The individual should have the following qualities:

  • Flexible and keen to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills and good telephone manner.
  • Excellent typing skills and IT skills (particularly Word and Excel).
  • Dedicated and enthusiastic.
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally work long hours to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Driving licence is essential.

4. BOOKKEEPER – PERSHORE

We are looking for a Bookkeeper ideally with experience in an accountancy practice. This is a full time vacancy based in our Pershore office.

The role will involve bookkeeping, preparation of VAT returns and management accounts. This will be carried out both in our offices and at our clients’ premises so you must have the ability to work on your own initiative, hold a full driving licence and have transport available.

You will be professional and confident but also friendly and outgoing.

Ideally the candidate would be experienced to supervise a small team and work under pressure to meet deadlines.

The vacancy would suit someone with the AAT qualification or similar not wishing to carry on with studying. Knowledge of Sage Accounts and cloud bookkeeping packages is an advantage. The candidate must have strong IT and communication skills.
