The role – “internal Company Accountant and Assistant Practice Manager within our professional practice” .

We are looking for a full time Assistant Practice Manager who has accountancy technical training, an eye for detail and accuracy as well as excellent communication skills.  High quality written and oral presentation skills are essential to maintain our professional reputation.

All relevant candidates will be considered but we will give preference to a qualified accountant being ACA, ACCA or AAT qualified, with relevant experience in a professional practice.

Crowthers Chartered Accountants operate through 4 branch offices in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire and you will be based with our friendly proactive growing team in the centre of Cheltenham.  Visits to the other 3 offices will occasionally be required.

You will initially be working with our Practice Manager to develop the internal accounting and management systems for the entire company and you will take charge of the billing and time recording systems.  You will be responsible for training and supervising the admin team members in the 4 individual offices, assisting in their training and development and then reviewing their work to ensure accuracy. 

You will also be responsible for the payroll for our 35 employees and assisting with the preparation of management accounts, KPI’s and other reporting for the 5 Directors.

The role – Secretary, PA and Receptionist at our office in Pershore

The role will also require the individual to perform administrative duties and clerical duties to assist the company to run smoothly, predominantly working for our Pershore Office Director. 

The role will include:

  • Answering telephones.
  • Reception duties including dealing with clients, managing diaries and appointments, arranging conference calls and meetings and making drinks.
  • Typing duties including composing correspondence.
  • Publishing documents to our clients via our secure internet portal.
  • Preparing invoices and maintaining our time ledgers.
  • Supporting the needs of our professional accounts team.
  • Acting as PA to the Pershore Director to manage her appointments.
  • Assisting with internal and external marketing events and creating a great first impression to potential clients.
  • Completing company secretarial paperwork (training will be provided).
  • Carrying out project work to take the business forward.
  • Managing stationery supplies for the office.

The individual

We are looking for the right person to fit in with our young professional accounts team in Pershore.  Experience of working in a similar role within a professional firm is preferable but not essential.

The individual should have the following qualities:

  • Excellent typing skills and IT skills (particularly Word and Excel).
  • Excellent communication skills and good telephone manner.
  • Dedicated, enthusiastic, flexible and keen to learn.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


The role will be based in our office in the centre of Pershore, although there may be occasional work in our other offices.

The role – Crowthers Accountants are looking to recruit a Tax Technical Assistant to assist on a range of tax projects, reporting to the Tax Director.

The tax projects will include:

  • Company reorganisations such as implementing group structures and demergers.
  • Preparing Advance Assurance applications for SEIS and EIS and completing the paperwork on completion of the fundraise.
  • Inheritance tax planning and assistance with probate cases.
  • Preparation of capital gains tax calculations, including entrepreneurs relief planning.
  • Remuneration planning for business owners.
  • Property tax planning, including SDLT.
  • Preparation of patent box claims. 
  • Incorporation of sole traders and partnerships.
  • Assisting with valuations.
  • Assisting the R&D tax relief team with preparation of R&D claims.
  • Review complex personal tax and corporation tax returns.
  • Other ad hoc tax advisory projects.

The role will require the individual to:

  • Attend client meetings.
  • Carry out detailed technical research and prepare detailed reports for the clients to explain the tax planning.
  • Prepare tax clearance and Advance Assurance applications.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Provide an exceptional level of client service.
  • Carry out the work within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in tax legislation.
  • Produce technical briefings and marketing material as required.

The individual – we are looking for the right person to join our growing tax team. 

The candidate should have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Completion of ATT or CTA (or similar).
  • Must have some experience of working on tax advisory projects.  Please note that you do not need to have experience in all of the areas outlined above as we will provide training and support.

We are specifically looking for an individual with the following skills:

  • Excellent written skills and experience of report writing.
  • Good oral communicator.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Dedicated, enthusiastic, flexible and keen to learn.
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally work long hours to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Driving licence is essential.
