We are currently looking for a Part Qualified Accountant (ACA or ACCA) to join our team in Pershore.

The full-time role will involve preparation of client accounts and tax computations including statutory and management accounts, corporation tax, business tax and personal tax computations.

Experience with any cloud accounting software packages such as Xero, KashFlow or QuickBooks is desirable as well as knowledge of Sage.

We are offering a formal study contract to complete your studies, covering the costs of the qualification and providing study leave to attend training courses.

The role

The corporate tax team at Crowthers Accountants are looking to recruit an R&D Tax Manager, to report directly to the Tax Director, Sara Crowther.  The team specialises in the preparation of claims for research and development (R&D) tax relief and prepares claims worth in excess of £4 million each year for a diverse range of clients across many different sectors and industries. This means the role is very varied and interesting.

The role will require the individual to assist in the preparation of the R&D tax relief claims including:

  • Onsite visits and telephone calls with clients to gather information about R&D activities;
  • Gathering, reviewing and analysing clients R&D cost information;
  • Preparing detailed reports for HM Revenue and Customs in relation to the claim for R&D tax relief.

In addition, the individual will be expected to:

  • Assist in business development activities and attracting new R&D clients to the firm;
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients;
  • Provide an exceptional level of client service as this is a key aspect of the Crowthers R&D offering;
  • Carry out the work within agreed timescales and budgets;
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in R&D tax legislation and HM Revenue and Customs guidance and identify clients impacted by any changes;
  • Produce technical briefings and marketing material as required;
  • Travel throughout the UK to meet clients.

In addition to their role in the R&D projects, the Manager will also be involved in some corporation tax compliance work, patent box claims and capital allowance claims. The tax team at Crowthers also carry out a significant level of advisory and restructuring projects. The individual will be required to:

  • Support the Tax Director on advisory projects;
  • Research technical matters in a methodical manner; and
  • Produce reports to explain tax matters clearly and succinctly to clients.

The individual

We are looking for the right person to fit in with our young expanding team in Cheltenham and due to the volume of new business experience in R&D tax relief claims is essential.

The individual should have the following qualifications:

  • ACA/ACCA qualified.
  • CTA is not essential but is desirable (we would consider offering CTA training for the right candidate).
  • A degree in a science or a technology discipline is also desirable to comprehend IT related research.

We are looking for an individual with the following skills:

  • Excellent written skills and experience of report writing.
  • Good oral communicator.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Dedicated, enthusiastic, flexible and keen to learn.
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally work long hours to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Driving licence is essential.


The role will be based in our new office in the centre of Cheltenham, although there will be occasional work in our other offices in Pershore and Ledbury.
